A welcoming world of an album, full of reminiscences, memories, nods and hope. McCartney is still around and, spoiler alert, he is as creative a craftsman/ artist as he ever was, aged voice and all. Each track would deserve an analysis but that last one, "Momma gets by", is evidence his genius at creating musical magic is very much alive. Oh, and barring a couple of exceptions (notably a catchy duet with Ringo, no less!), he plays most everything himself. Album of the year material as far as I'm concerned.

They did it again, three years after "Hackney diamonds"and even better. The Rolling Stones still deliver the goods in 2026. The guests merge so well in the overall sound- kudos to producer Andrew Watt, who also produces the McCartney album: Steve Winwood (keyboards on most of the songs), Benmont Tench (organ on a few), Bruno Mars (a stray cowbell), Robert Smith (guitar and backing vocals on a couple), Paul McCartney (again!), Chad Smith (bass drum on the closing cover of "Beautiful Delilah"),... Mick's singing is fantastic, Ronnie shines, Keith is all over the place, Steve Jordan on drums rises up to the occasion repeatedly. Their best since...?

1960's/ early '70's pastiche elevated to an art form on the strength of: the songs (inspired, meticulously constructed and very clever in their knowing nods), the performances (fantastic musicians here), the production, the arrangements. And, gosh, those vocals. The D'Addario brothers had always been very good singers but here, they're on another level. The sky could be the limit if they don't get stuck in a rut.

An ambitious storyline (inspired by the tragic and very dangerous political climate of its time) spread over a double album, by a truly unique singer/ songwriter. Mesmerizing if you give it a chance. Rewarding. Very much so.

It cheers me up that some artists still treat the album format as an artistic statement. This is a concept album about a nightclub with brilliant songs, performances and arrangements. Oh yeah and it was originally written and planned by Tilbrook and Difford when they were teenagers, at the very start of the band around 1974. Had such an endeavor ever been undertaken before?

Someone once said that, you may not care about politics but it sure cares about you (or something like that). And not in a good way. This album is what real American country-music is all about. Margo Price: radiating class and talent with everything she does. Unlike the malevolent inspiration(s) this beautiful album is a reaction against. And that cover of Dylan's "Maggie's farm" is exhilarating.
