Their weakest release for sure, but I'm definitely not inclined to call it bad.
Surprised this gets ranked so low consistently for them. Sure it's not their best but Bull in the heather winners blues and bone are all really good

After delivering 3 masterpieces in a row, Sonic Youth's inspiration fell drastically short on that one... There really isn't anything good about that complete bore of an album.
Definitely Sonic Youth's worst album. They just repeated the same formula they used on Dirty, but this time, they made it noisy and boring. There isn't much to say about most of the songs, they're mostly just forgettable and straight up boring.
However there are a few gems in here: Bull In the Heather, Androgynous Mind, Sweet Shine (best track)
But then there are the sucky forgettable and boring tracks: Bone, Quest For the Cup, Tokyo Eye, Doctor's Orders
I mean don't get me wrong I don't hate this album, but it's Sonic Youth's worst, and their least relevant.
Great Album! Definitely deserves a higher rank on this site.
Standout Tracks: Winner's Blue, Bull In The Heather, Screaming Skull, Self-Obsessed and Sexxee, Androgynous Mind, Waist, In The Mind Of The Bourgeois Reader, Sweet Shine
