Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Steppenwolf666

A few well known masterpieces and lots of less known but equally good lp's, which should be known by a much wider audience. These range from experimental, to innovative, to unique, to exceptional prog/psych/folk rock. Unfortunately 100 is no where near enough to enter all my favourite albums.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 18% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.2/100, a mean average of 86.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 87.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 14.6.

A very (very) unique chart and I can fully appreciate you predominant love of UK 60's/70's prog/folk/rock. Our tastes are influenced by when & where we were at a certain span of time (I get it - i'm predominantly locked into late 60's/70's songwriters).
I have picked up a few interesting albums from your chart that I will add to my relevant year charts - & for that I am grateful.
Having said all that, I prefer charts that are a bit more diverse in spanning the entire 60 years of amazing creativity in music ~ and that also include at least one (maybe more) albums from south of the equator (just a personal bugbear of mine:))

Really nice to see Renaissance and Hawkwind feature so much here. A lot I haven't heard in here as well. Great list!

Third really is deserving of so much love, thank you for Golden Earring (completely new listen!)

I presume you are referring to the pre dominance of albums by UK artists. I can't really explain the reason for this, but I grew up in the late 60's/early 70's when UK artists seemed to make most of the good music. An unparalleled high in music history in my opinion!

I really don't agree with your #1 placement. Disraeli Gears is even more inconsistent than Layla. Otherwise its an interesting list. Nice Ten Years After.

antaiospiano, Golden Earring are very underrated in my opinion. They made some very good albums from the late 60's to the mid 70's, especially "Eight miles high, Moontan, and To the hilt". Group 1850, and Cargo were also excellent. As for the Doors, I like the first two albums and L.A. woman very much, but not enough to make this chart. I think the late 60's/early 70's demonic thing was a backlash to the peace & love of the 60's, there were many other artists which also chose that route, but none as successful as Black Sabbath.
