An undeniable classic, brimming with innovation and sentiment, it would be even better if it wasn't for the 10 minutes of nonsense on Moonchild when the vocals subside.

A couple of the personnel here went on to form more commercially successful bands such as Foreigner and Emerson, Lake & Palmer but they never got anywhere near to this masterpiece again.

A very highly regarded album, almost held in the same esteem as the debut. In Starless they had created something truly special which stands as one of their best ever recordings.

All the vocal tracks are indeed excellent but with there being only three of them, this is where it falls short in comparison to the debut for me, and although one of the instrumentals is great, the other one I am not too keen on at all. Imagine if The Night Watch was included here at the expense of Providence, this would make all the difference.

Again, we have three great vocal tracks and indeed the final instrumental is very good too but this album would appeal to me more if it had more vocals. The opener has it's moments but it's a little too long for me and The Talking Drum is not so memorable but overall this album is well worth a listen.

Almost a year after Lizard and King Crimson's line up and changed again, this time Boz Burrell taking the vocals on this occasion. I possibly prefer this album to Lizard but there isn't a lot in it to be honest, the title track here is excellent and edges it slightly.

It does this album no favours to compare it with the preceding album, although it does seem to be in a similar vein, it certainly comes off the worse for wear.

The title track is still a highlight and could quite easily have been from the debut, Cadence And Cascade was also very good and featured Gordon Haskell in a precurser for the following record. Having said that, Pictures Of A City is pretty good and Cat Food isn't the worst track in the world, maybe this one is a little overlooked afterall.

Lizard and Islands were both recorded during a shift in personnel, particularly the vocalists which would be the most recognisable difference and bridged the gap between the Greg Lake era and the John Wetton era. Lizard featured Gordon Haskell who went on to have a big hit with "How Wonderful You Are" many years later in 2001, he had taken the vocals on "Cadence And Cascade" on the previous album. Jon Anderson from Yes makes a wonderful cameo in the title track which could've been so much better if it wasn't 23 minutes long and mostly instrumental.

After a 7 year hiatus, King Crimson returned almost in the guise of Talking Heads, which of course is no criticism. Adrian Belew featured on vocals, he had a great CV after working with the likes of Frank Zappa, David Bowie and Talking Heads strangely enough. A very worthy comeback.

Like most of King Crimson's back catalogue, for me the vocal tracks are great, but they are few and far between.

The Night Watch is one of the best tracks they ever recorded, Lament is wonderful too, and if only we had a few more tracks like this then I would be happy.

We do get a classic instrumental piece in Fracture which sounds great but is something I wouldn't want to learn on the guitar.

Overall, this album is still worth checking out for The Night Watch alone.
