2022, the beginning of a new, album journey.

Ms. Li certainly has created a style that isn't that comparable in her realm, a form that blends soft psychedelic pop-isms (to a lesser extent) with typical over-the-sky guitar rock and modern bedroom pop (as the genre with most filled doses). So a lot of pop. The opening track Cherry Pit hits you right away before it descends into bedroom pop territory, but with an indie rock guitar and then goes back. And how Magic and Space are put together sounds so wholesome, both are both spiritual and rocky. She shows great strength at creating a subtle melodrama (Trying), making pop rock sound overblown without being cliché (What You're Thinking), and melting disco-pop and AOR together without crashing (Star Stuff).
Unfortunately, not every trick hits. Boring Again is a boring detour of indie pop with no flavor. Afterglow tries to vocally imitate soul singers of the 1970s without luck, over an instrumentation that is competent but without flavor...again. She also tries a little bit of R&B-rapping on Flower In Full Boom and it only semi-works: the backend of rock instrumentation on that song is preferable. Alone But Not Lonely has some life to it, but is cut short. Same for Misery Moon but more gentle.
Sometimes Duality can seem a little silly, but I still give it up to Li for not trying to be radio-friendly. [First added to this chart: 03/26/2022]

@LedZep thank you mayn. That really means a lot. I had a quick look at your highest rated 2022 albums and I have listened to pretty much all of it though, so yeah different taste but we're different, mate. :)

Feels carefully crafted, with a lot of attention to detail and interesting write-ups. Probably my fave 2022 chart, even though we're not exactly listening to the same styles.
