Make a more serious 2020s chart with at least 90 entries (possibly full 100, depending on the quality of this year's music) - :)

Captures one of the best producer/DJ duos of all time at the peak of their powers, playing their best tracks. Has rad remixes (Turn the Page remix is the best thing ever), simple and effective mixing/transitions, features live vocals from For Those I Love. Finding a cooler set than this will be a tough ask. Screamo heaven. The mix of post metal, hardcore/emoviolence and screamo has never sounded as good as on Rebuke, the current strong contender for track of the year. And it's not even clearly the best song on this 30-minute punky behemoth of a record. In fact the track preceding it, Whilom, is not as grand in scope, but more than makes up for it in intensity. The third track, Stage Whisper is even more epic, "post" and atmospheric. And then after everything you've been through, there's the last track Song for a Frieze - and you can scratch all the notes you've made because this is definitely the best track on the record. Basically the only tracks which weren't as mind-bending were the first two, and even those are excellent screamo cuts. Yeah, easily some of the coolest music I've heard this decade. Minimal paradise. Lighthouse tracks are particularly stunning, I love it when Colin goes all in on the slightly epic, but still minimal pieces. I guess that's why Never Were the Way She Was is my fave, or rather was since this is god tier shit. If I had to choose, the last, fifth Lighthouse is the best track here and frankly the best of the year. [First added to this chart: 06/09/2023]

Both parts of London Brew song are masterful. The first one lets every band member play almost freely, which creates an incredible array of versatile, adventurous, and above all, fun solos. The second part builds and builds and then almost comes to a halt instead of culminating. But instead of being the song's undoing, those last few minutes sound so intriguing that they've become my favourite part of the album. Honestly, all 8 songs are winners, but those first 2 are colossal and could've easily been too long or chaotic in the hands of other, less skillful musicians, which is thankfully not the case at all. In the end, despite it being an ode to Bitches Brew, I think this has more in common with Get Up With It, which is one of the best albums ever released imo, so it's quite a high praise.

Weird, spiritual jazz with a bunch of different instruments, inventive playing, extravagant ideas, somewhat chaotic but not too much, has wonderful quieter chamber parts, even features several fantastic vocal track. In this sea of oddities, The Mountain's jazz country/folk sound stands out as the highlight. [First added to this chart: 12/30/2023]

Wtf is this looool. I've been ever so slightly disappointed with the "new" Gizzard stuff (post 2019). I did like most of it, even loved some of their last year's stuff, but this album finally blows my mind as much as their best work. Might even be better than Rats Nest. Maybe, maybe not, whatever. Highlights: Converge, Motor Spirit, Dragon, etc.
