I'm polyamorous, and this year, my longest relationship ended after nearly 4 years, the day that "Sadness as a Gift" was released. Another relationship of a year ended in September. I had another 2 relationships start this year, as well, one of which flamed out after a few brilliant months, the other of which I'm still comfortably in the throes of. Somehow, this album has had little bits for everything that I've needed in the whether happy or sad or bittersweet or nostalgic. I'm lucky to still be extremely close with everyone I mentioned here, and find serious, serious solace in this album, as a friend, as a place of comfort, as catharsis, and as both sadness and joy.

I'd waited for this album pretty much my entire music-listening life. 4:13 Dream came out when I was 12, and I found The Cure via my father 2 years later. While I still don't think this reaches the high highs of Pornography or Disintegration, it feels like a fitting part of a great discography that was 32 years removed from the last truly great album. While I know this isn't intended to be the end, if this is the final album from The Cure, it's an amazing way to go out, and far, far better than I could have realistically anticipated.

Hey, it's Kendrick - how bad could it be? This is him having fun again after a bit of a bummer album, and there's something to be said for that. I still don't love some of the vocal gimmicks that Kendrick uses, whether here or on GKMC. But I was losing it when this came out, and it's a pretty fun revisit still.
