Top 10 Music Albums of 2023
by

This is my most under developed 2020s list so far that I've posted, but I intend to fix that in 2027. Making this now for the function of adding albums to BEA.
My normal threshold for making a year list is that I have to have at least liked the album (indicated by at least a 75 rating), but I am forgoing that for now so that I have enough albums to make this. Albums not fitting this criterian will be removed as soon as is reasonable to do so.

85.556 - In a world of derivative country dominating the airwaves these days, this man puts out music that feels like classic country with a modern flare. His voice is magical.
Available from
84.474 - While not quite as strong as her first album, this album still slaps and has a couple of songs I absolutely love. She was inescapable on the radio for a good three years from 2021 through 2023 and I didn't mind it one bit.

83.958 - This small indie rock group captures a sound in the 2020s that was ruling the airwaves ten years prior. If you dropped this album into 2011 with a little marketing behind it you'd have at least two or three of these tracks crack the Billboard Hot 100.

77.692 - This is my first real exposure to KGLW and while I know they really hop around genre wise across their discography, this version of Gizz is one that will have to grow on me. I liked the album well enough, but didn't love anything about it this time around.

76.923 - Among a discography I really loved, this was the weakest release I listened to by far. I didn't enjoy what the features added to many of the tracks and I'm not sure any of them were actually elevated in this recording for me. I still liked the album, though, because it's still The Wonder Years.

76.25 - I think Shockwire has really dialed in their sound in the past couple of releases after this one, but you can see some snippets of greatness here for punk rock's Weird Al outfit.

73.438 - I'll be honest, I don't remember much from this one, which is probably why it got merely a fine rating from me. But fakemink is doing some really fun things in the past couple of years that I have been enjoying listen to. Definitely try out their 2025 releases.
Available from
72.564 - This edition did not strengthen the album overall in my opinion and this wasn't one of my favorite Taylor Swift albums to begin with. It's a fine album.
Available from
72.436 - I've never been a huge fan of 1989 among Taylor's discography, but the Taylor's version certainly elevates the project for me.
Available from
68.293 - Drake continues his drop off of the 2020s here for me. There's nothing offensive about any of these tracks but they are mostly just fine or forgettable to me. I couldn't tell you a single song title or sing a single melody a year removed from rating this.
