Taylor Swift is by far the most offensive musical artist I've ever encountered. She represents all that is wrong with the relationship between music and society. I find the icon that is Taylor Swift far more distasteful than the most raunchy Eminem lyric.

Why? It's simple, everything about her is perfectly curated to sell records. So much meticulous crafting has gone in to every faucet of her image that in casual conversation one is not allowed to dislike her. It is a bigger crime to be critical of Taylor Swift than it was to question Issac Newton in the scientific community before Einstein discovered relativistic mechanics.

And just like Newton's theories that were applicable to "most scenarios" - Taylor's music is liked by most people: how can you not enjoy those catchy melodies and cleanly produced radio hits? However, just as those who understand physics know that Newton being "a little bit off" was a BIG deal people who understand music understand that Taylor Swift being "a little bit off" is a BIG deal.

She is completely unoriginal, bland, tasteless, never takes risks, does nothing ever that is polarizing or controversial. Nothing to detract from the record sales! But it's perfect because it's not bad enough for anyone to lose credibility claiming she is a "guilty pleasure". Ultimately though it should be an insult to the entire music community that one of the best selling artists of the millennium is a complete fraud equating to musical progress of an absolute zero.

Lyrics are TERRIBLE. Songs absolutely not interesting, same structures and instrumentation every single time. Just look at the covers of albums and everything will be explained all by itself. Trying to play on the looks instead of her singing and songwriting talents, and listening to her it's easy to see why.

@Vatsal

Yes, three of Taylor Swift's albums do appear in the yearly top 40 for this website. And I have nothing to really say about it except that it does disappoint me.

I see based on your rating that you are a fan and I'm perfectly fine with that, and albums on this site are put into the list base on the number of charts they're out into here. But that does not mean all the albums put in a computerized list for every year based just about only on fan ratings will be genuinely good.

There are probably albums put generally high in a yearly list for this site that you hate, and ones you may love. But this is all judged mostly by fans, making it so handfuls of stuff get through.

So, basically what I'm saying here is that I don't believe any of Swift's albums deserve any mention in a best of list, but at the end of the day it's all about personal opinion and personal taste, which is of course different for everyone.

No I meant the top 40 of the yearly charts on this website. Speak now, red and 1989 are all in the top 40 of the chart of their respective year.

@Vatsal

By "top 40", do you mean Billboard Top 40?

If so, that's based only on an album or song's popularity, how often it's been listened to at that moment in time. It is not based on quality. The more popular an album is, the higher on Billboard it'll go.

And since it's Taylor Swift and she's extremely popular, her albums have commonly been floating around fairly high on average on Billboard.

Nothing to do with quality.

The fact that her albums manage to place in the top 40s in every year they're released even after the blind hate from most members on this website says alot about the superficial opinions on this website about mainstream artists and the outside Critical Acclaim for Taylor Swift.

A lot of people on this site especially are very pretentious about the music they like. Which makes sense - it's definitely a place for deconstruction and evaluation rather than mindless listening.
But for TS have you guys given anything aside from singles a listen? Most of her stuff is actually quite different and well-written. Don't knock it because it's popular. Not everyone's favorite artists and albums is gonna be the same as the cumulative of this site. Not to knock anyone else's tastes. Pop artists are just treated so harshly here. Her music is enjoyable and consistently A+ production and solid songwriting. She knows what she's doing.

Taylor Swift is a product of a capitalist machine, her displaying a nice front for record producers.

I simply cannot believe her latest release from her (managers and producers...) won Album of the Year over a masterpiece as To Pimp a Butterfly - an album that already shows signs it will change the direction of hip-hop - i.e. changing music history in a genre defining way.

Such an example of how the Grammy are a load of bull (e.g. when Steely Dan's Two Against Nature beat Kid A in 2000)...

Frankly, i'm horrified that she is in the top 5,000 here, much less 1,000. She can sing, and write terrible throw-away pop songs. That's exactly as far as her, "Talent" goes. I officially dismiss her as another modern pop whore. Good people: good music defines society, and bad is defined by society.
