Upon first listen, as soon as this track got going, I felt a major happiness in how obvious it was MGMT were (tastefully) going back to the sonic ideals of the first album. Only this time they have a decade plus of experience and maturity on their side.
The two albums in between are fine and have a few major highlights, but MGMT is just so much more convincing and engaging in this mode than the psych rock of albums two and three.

This may be one of my favorite openers in a while. It has that 'introduction' thing going on with the first lines being "Get ready to have some fun!". It's so theatrical and establishes a completely amazing record. It should be rated a little bit higher IMO.
