Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)
This track is rated in the top 2% of all tracks on BestEverAlbums.com. This track has a Bayesian average rating of 84.4/100, a mean average of 83.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 85.5/100. The standard deviation for this track is 16.0.

SOPHIE's loss is unbearable even 4 years on, but by far the worst thing for me is that we lost one of the best articulators of the queer experience of our generation. We are blessed to be living in an unprecedented time for gay music that is out, openly, loudly and proudly. Much of that is thanks to her, in particular the many fantastic artists she worked with.
Even then, not one of them holds a candle to the way she depicted what it means to be queer, the arresting analogy of 'Is It Cold' not just a visceral rendering of her transness, but a milimetre-accurate feeling of the weight of the worlding bearing down on your sexuality. What it means to face out to a world that has genuinely got better in its treatment of us, and yet is still full of so many foxholes that the sense it could all slip away in a moment remains ever present.
This is the sound of facing up to oneself, the unstoppable need to live your truth, against the immovable object of society's image of you are. But with all those torrents of synths, building and building with rage and hurt and potential and burning passion, SOPHIE crashes out the track on the knowledge that with this one under your belt, nothing can truly stop you.
Oil Of Every Pearl remains one of the greatest statements of queerness in living memory, and this is it crux.
Serious contender for song of the year.
