Katie Pope knows. Strumming through an old copy of Heat magazine as she urinates in disinterested contemplation. That urinary tract infection is getting better but is still pooping the party. She needs a doctor not a doctrine.
Katie hums the radio edit of Strumpet by My Life Story. If she sits here long enough, shows enough commitment, the burning will stop. “Adam Rickitt has new curtains”, Katie splurges, but she is alone in this spinning bathroom. Alone but all that matters. All that touches is cold. She quickly flicks on to Keith Duffy in his garage.
Same thoughts. Same movements. Same indifference. Two weeks now. Still it burns. Stings like police brutality. “Drip dry or double ply”, as Katie rips out Ant McPartlin’s face, licks a finger and sticks it on Hannah Spearitt’s impish body on page 17.
Katie dumps the Heat in the bin. At least she will never have to see McPartlin’s headless form again. At least until tomorrow. When Katie will be set alight again.
