I don’t see any subtext here; it’s a song about David Livingstone.
I find the track rather twee and childlike. Not my cup of tea I’m afraid although the guitar solo towards the end of the track is rather decent

Kind of a silly song, but still worth a listen, especially if you know the characters and can relate them to the theme of the song.
