Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)

This track is rated in the top 1% of all tracks on BestEverAlbums.com. This track has a Bayesian average rating of 92.2/100, a mean average of 91.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.6/100. The standard deviation for this track is 13.7.

It's as breathtaking as it is sorrowful. Absolutely beautiful concept and lovely melody over the minimalist production. The highlight though is Sufjan's piercing lyrics where each alternates between the perspective of him and his mother. I don't usually find songs this devastating perfect but this is a perfect song. It has an undeniable ability to reliably make me feel an incredibly strong emotion:

Did you get enough love, my little dove
Why do you cry?
And I’m sorry I left, but it was for the best
Though it never felt right
My little Versailles

I can't even read that lyric without getting pretty overwhelmed. It's as hard hitting of a song as has ever been written, Sufjan dropped the song of his career here.

I was initially disappointed that this album unseated TPAB as the best album of the year on this website. After listening to this song I still wouldn't agree, but I can understand why.
Fourth of July is one of the most profound and meaningful pieces of music I've ever heard, and is doubtlessly the saddest and most chilling song of the year. What a wonderful song on a very, very good album.

One of the most heart-breaking songs I ever heard. Also the best of 2015 by far.

This song is so sad. So cold and empty. Highlight of the album.
