Guitar Hero is a great game. I play the guitar (or try to) but Guitar Hero can't be compared to that. It's a game. Instant enjoyment, pick it up and play. Have a few beers with your buddies and crank some rock n' roll. Plus, don't go bashing Guitar Hero for being BAD for music. If anyone can be thanked for spreading the gospel of great music to a new generation it's those games. Every teenager out there knows The Guess Who by now. Without that game they would never have.
I consider Guitar Hero and Rock Band great for music. It might be the only cultural factor right now introducing younger kids to real rock and roll and guitar oriented music in general. A lot of kids are spoon-fed prepackaged Disney music or generic autotuned "rock" music and would have probably never have appreciated a sweet guitar solo otherwise.

It seems like some people get angry over it because the people who listen to that "prepackaged Disney music" now like something they like. In there mind this damages their own music taste and makes the band they like less credible because 3000+ people who like disney music like it.
Someone getting into a song from one of these games is good but if they go get the album that songs on it's nothing short of brilliant
