I recommend anyone wanting to put their mind at ease about Trump's foreign policy (and wanting to learn a bit about the history of foreign policy doctrine) read this excellent article from Foreign Policy.

Good read. Doesn't really ease my concerns though. He just lays out a scenario in which Trump actually succeeds do to quasi-isolationalism, but at no point does the writer sound all that confident that Trump isn't an amateur wild card.

if you can find me calls for war with Iran from any of these people, or indicate to me how a popular mandate for isolationism is somehow worse than a popular mandate for another four years of blank check foreign policy, i'm all ears.

You're totally right. Hillary would have kept the status quo of United States militarization. Proxy wars would continue. But she was still a more diplomatic option than Drumpf. She's at least smart enough to choose her words carefully, and not erupt in temper tantrums like Drumpf has proven to do over trivial issues. Donald is totally unstable, a wild card with no experience leading a group of very staunch Nationalists and Zionists who have run on a fear based platform.

I wanted Bernie. Voting for Hillary was the last thing I wanted to do, in part because of her hawkish tendencies, but Drumpf is next level.

This sums it up so well, Hillary basically would've been Obama Lite, probably gotten a little less done and done more I disagreed with, but basically the exact same as the past 8 years. Trump is a total enigma, it's hard to say what he'll do in terms of foreign policy (or abortion or climate or etc), but his Cabinet isn't a wild card at all. The people he's surrounding himself with have been very, very upfront with rather extreme alt-right views.

I do not know what Mr. Trump's foreign policy will be like and I do not think anyone else knows either, including Mr. Trump.

We can, however, make judgements based on who he's hired (like Mattis) and what Trump has done so far, such as...

So is today the day we can stop referring to America as a democracy? Apparently confirmed Russian hacking from the nations 2 topmost intelligence agencies can't stop a racist psychopath with no experience from being elected.

People who say racism/sexism doesn't exist are fucking laughable.

I stopped referring to America as a democracy years ago. In fact I'd argue this country never was a democracy. Just a plutocracy disguised as one.

Very unfortunate that we were stuck with two of the shittiest candidates you could've asked for, but glad the better of the two won. I did not vote for Trump nor Hilary mind you.
