One thing to keep in mind is there's the Messiah greatest hits versions and then the full version - which do you want?

What's the greatest hits one? It's compilation of different renditions doing different tracks? Sounds like a mess. Think

The 1966 recording released on CD by Phillips in 1993, performed by London Symphony Orchestra with soloists Helen Watts, Heather Harper, Ralph Downes, John Shirley-Quirk, Leslie Pearson, John Wakefield and William Lang, conducted by Sir Collin Davis and John Alldis.

This is the one I luckily had been listening to after reading some amazon reviews. It's really good, but just put the first place on and it dos sound fantastic.

So.. this is a start. Now they should just do this for every classical recording and delete all the rest. Laughing

I agree, Davis' is excellent, among the very best (and perhaps the most famous). One of my references too (as listed in my previous reply) and probably the best rendition to start with -- as its both one of the best and among the most immediately rewarding.

It's like an abridged version of the work. They take out snippets.
