Marc Ribot is a man who never seems to get quite the level of respect or appreciation as he deserves. This list says a hell of a lot. He has performed and recorded with Tom Waits, John Zorn, David Sylvian, Jack McDuff, Wilson Pickett, The Lounge Lizards, Arto Lindsay, T-Bone Burnett, Medeski, Martin and Wood, Cibo Matto, Elysian Fields, Sam Phillips, Elvis Costello, Tift Merritt, David Poe, Allen Ginsberg, Foetus, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Susana Baca, The Black Keys, Stan Ridgway, Vinicio Capossela, Alain Bashung, Lyenn, Hector Zazou, McCoy Tyner, Elton John, Madeleine Peyroux, Marianne Faithfull, Leonid Fedorov, Tonio K, Andres Calamaro, Anarchist Republic of Bzzz, Diana Krall, Mike Patton and others.
As much as I love Drozd and as cool of sounds as he's been able to get from guitars, I've always seen him more as a super talented multi-instrumentalist than a singularly transcendent guitarist. I may vote for him over some people I feel more apathetic about, but the guitar work on the Lounge Lizards clip is what inspired me to get into them (which funny enough I just learned was Ribot) and all his work with Waits and dozens of others is pretty worth a vote.

If I wanted to listen to an album or two that best showcased Ribot's playing, what would you recommend? At the moment, I'm mainly just familiar with his work with Waits.

my love for Ribot comes mostly from his work with Waits, but I'd say his contributions to Lounge Lizards and John Zorn's work is the most significant I've heard
