graphic novels are novels, dang nabbbittttttt

But yeah no anthologies are okay, but cmon gotta love the graphic novel

my only problem with including graphic novels is that the images tend to be just as if not more important than the text, and as such it seems odd to compare them to works that generally don't even include illustrations

Agreed, I really think the criteria for judging them is astoundingly different, and I've never found a graphic novel that read like a (for lack of a better word) regular novel. Plus I think they come from really different creative places and I just don't think they actually mesh that well. If we want to make this a top novels list instead of a top fiction list or whatever we were talking about at the beginning, I say we limit it to regular novels.

unless there are any complaints/suggestions/hesitations/whatever I'll likely be opening up polling this week (possibly tomorrow). As of now it's NOVELS ONLY (not of the graphic variety), but feel free to argue a case against that

Ill still defend my graphic novels here because I didn't know this was about properly comparing and distinguishing different forms of the novel and not just a fun poll, but whatever the rules are that's fine, no worries. I guess a good question is: would a work like In Cold Blood count, since it's presented as a novel and fictionalizes a lot of what is still a very real murder case and subsequent series of events?

As I understand it In Cold Blood is primarily a non-fiction book (with some differing from reality) just presented with prose usually characteristic of a novel. Right now I'm gonna say no but again feel free to argue a case

sorry no poll yet guys been busy

If we include plays, I assume we have to include each, rather than be able to pick a published compilation

Why not make it another poll? We could have 3 or more:

Novels/short story/poems collections
Plays
Graphic novels/comic books
