Why not make it another poll? We could have 3 or more:

Novels/short story/poems collections
Plays
Graphic novels/comic books

I'm in favor of something like this. Opinions?

If we split it, plays and poetry are much more connected than poetry and novels

also agreed. Right now I'd say the separate polls should be

Novels
Poems
Plays
Graphic Novels/Comic Books
Short Stories

the question being should short stories be ranked separately or among novels? (also should we be ranking individual stories or collections/anthologies? Same question goes for poetry and plays)

I'd argue poetry and plays should both be ranked individually and short stories should be by collection but I'm up for debate.

I think if we don't do it just for novels it'll be too much; I've been trying to come up with a list of top 100 novels past couple of days and it's really hard to organize it and omit some. We can then lump the other ones together if you want or do them separately but novels gotta be one poll. And no series like Lord of the Rings or In Search of Lost Time because that'd be cheating.

Yeah Im more than fine with seperate polls (although short stories individually would be a... bit of an odd one to do).

I think it's a bit more fun and higher stakes if we do one list for all literary works, from Homer to Tennessee Williams to Pablo Neruda to Kafka to Alan Moore to Homestuck. If we don't do it all in one though, I'd like everything separated, and believe we should rank poems and short stories by each, rather than collections; I might think Birches is the bee's knees, but not Mountain Interval, or Bartleby but not Piazza Tales, and that would affect the ranking. Also, how many people have read hundreds of poetry our short story collections?

agreed re: individual poems and short stories. Thinking that this first poll should just be novels. Gonna be up in a bit unless significant protest goes down before then
