This has been discussed at length in another thread dedicated to that purpose. I lean towards am infinitely confident that US music is both aesthetically better and more historically important, in general. UK's most prominent music, to me, is its classic rock and hip hop, both of which are rooted in US blues and US hip hop; US hip hop is better than UK hip hop, imo, and though US blues might not quite match up to acts like Zep and Stones, the early US blues recordings have an eerie atmosphere that the UK acts never even considered. However, if your tastes are congruent with Rolling Stone or NME, I can see why people might think UK produces better music. And this isn't even considering jazz, the definitive American art form.

Robert Anton Wilson, thankyou for your response. I was waiting to see if anyone noticed. I will just continue on my merry way.

I actually agree that the US is more historically and culturally important with regards to the evolution (and the quality) of popular music, but not for the bizarre reasons you cited. UK hip-hop isn't even prominent to me, and it's a scene I'm familiar with and have been involved in.

I sure love my AC/DC, but there is a lot of really good Canadian music that is either not well known, or people think the bands are American. Plus the Tragically Hip are awesome. _________________ RNFNR
