It was a joke. Look at recent news stories for Jimmy Saville.

Never been good at following the news. Seems that he isn't considered a hero today! Didn't think you were being serious, but I understand the joke better now.

Mother Nature's Son wrote:
It was mostly meant as a joke. In theory, a perfect human being doesn't exist. That's what makes us humans: our flaws. That being said, he pretty much has the perfect life story when you think about. His complicated family affairs, his rebellious nature contrasting his fight for peace and love, his perfect quotes ("We're more popular than Jesus now"), his you-gotta-try-everything-before-you-die-attitude, his relationship with a Japanese avant-garde artist, his, probably what Norman Bates was indicating, perfectly timed death, etc.. Most people gotta admit he was a true icon, whether you like him or not.

Don't forget the perfect agro-temper, the fact that he treated his first son like a mostly non-human through much of his life, his out of control violent drunkeness, his childish public jabs at Paul McCartney, the fact that he cheated on both of his wives, his friendship with the psychotic Phil Spector, and his songwriting and solo career, which quickly unfolded from powerful in 1970 to non existent and weak by 1975. And it was him, not his wife, that made bringing your girlfriend into the studio a dirty thing to do.

Again, it wasn't meant literally. From what I know of, he was the most mentally ill or mentally unbalanced. I know about his violent behaviour and all that stuff, which isn't cool in any way. However, I still hold on to that he was the biggest icon in the band, but that might as well just be my own subjective feeling. What are you referring to with his songwriting? It confuses me that you write his songwriting got worse over the years when your favourite John Lennon album, according to your overall chart, is Mind Games.

I also just randomly found out there is an airport named after John Lennon. Didn't know that until today! Embarassed

Geez, I was going to bring some of this up, but you did so much more eloquently than I could have. Well done Applause

Also, don't forget the handful of violently misogynistic songs he wrote with The Beatles.
