There is a connection Gary. We tax high on things our society deems to be bad such as Petrol and cigarettes. So the government can provide Healthcare for everyone.
Personally I don't mind pay lots of money for petrol if I can go to the hospital or doctors when I am sick and not get charged for it.
I mean come on New Zealand certinaly isn't in a giant mess healthcare wise like... AMERICA  . |

Oh man, I swears to god I live in a town where my family are the only registered Americans within a 60 mile radius. I think I am the only one at my school that speaks fluent english.

petrol is i think 6.60 per gallon over here if i calculated correctly, so it sounds like Americans need to stop complaining about the price of petrol being too damn high. Also for God's sake get on the metric system you crazy people, it's only been around like 220 years or something - get with it.
