Sweden and Denmark are not socialist. They are far left-liberal welfare-states but are not socialist. They also are not upholding a long-term sustainable political philosophy…as soon as their economies face hardship or people get tired of their very high taxes then money intake will lesson and the welfare-state will fall apart.

Much like they have been facing hardship just recently, and yet.. Think It's no less sustainable than how things are done in the US, there is just slightly higher taxes and spending. It's just a different philosophy from the electorate who don't think that state funded education or healthcare is an attack on their freedom or something dumb like that

People should constantly challenge themselves on why they believe what they do, if people are scared of doing this then they shouldn't really allow themselves their opinions in the first place

Right. Maybe if the US education system wasn't such a disaster, people would actually understand that it's a problem. It's like an endless cycle of stupidity. The advocates against universal healthcare are the worst.

Avoiding controversial topics when talking to people is the one trait I hate in people. I think of it as a very shallow and uncultured view: pretending to not have a stand on sth is actually no better than having a very wrong one in my opinion, no matter what the excuse might be. I'd immediately revise my relationship with someone who avoids bringing up controversial topics.

It's only in certain situations. I'll discuss controversial topics at length, and enjoy doing it, but only in the right time and place, and the right time and place is not necessarily when you're meeting someone for the first time or at a large group gathering where everyone just wants to relax. If someone asks me my opinion on something, I'll gladly tell them, but I'm not gonna walk into a party and be like "So how bout that white supremacist capitalist patriarchy eh?"

Good. Some people just avoid all controversial stuff in every kind of gathering and that almost always bothers me (with some exceptions, my mom lulz). It's like they have a policy or sth to remain ignorant and would hate you if you even thought about these stuff. It actually happens a lot in in most third world countries I've been to, esp. the higher class people of those countries (and my country) do it and I'm absolutely disgusted by that feel-good vibe that they try to retain at all costs all the time.

Oh, those controversial issues are some of the more important issues to talk about in life, that's part of the reason they're so controversial and why people are so passionate about them, they're important. Purposefully not having an opinion on issues like that is idiotic.

I differ with you on this. I think people who don't take stands are very interesting. Not taking stands is a stand, and can tell much more about somebody's opinion than if they stated their views a tad too loudly.

Why are you all so anti-conservative? Not every Republican is Ayn Rand (or Bush) and you're definitely taking a larger risk any time you elect a liberal President like Hillary because of the guaranteed spending increases. At this point, a true moderate who is popular with the public would be extremely advantageous. We need a mediator for the two parties as they both continue to grow more and more extreme.

People are anti conservative because it's easy. Requires the least amount of input thought. Learned this a while ago.

Unfortunately the main stream western right parties give terrible examples of actual right wing theory and policy and since they are some of the crookedest parties active People automatically write off right though because of guilt by association.

It sucks though, the left are winning. voting right is seen as a taboo at this point. Pretty in line with the lefts fetishes for barring free speech and other "your rights end where my feelings begin" bull shit. It's awful to see but there is still hope! Reactionary and nationalistic parties are starting to get off the ground. People are starting to wake up. Can't stop the signal baby!

America is fucked though. Barring a massive world changing event no party outside of the Dems and GOP will ever win. And they are both trash

* only a few successful parties are truly right wing btw (ukip SVP swedish democrats)
