Haha, how did I not see that a Shaimus album was nominated? I know their drummer pretty well, one of the coolest guys I know. We work at the same summer camp. What a coincidence.

Synthesist was my favourite of the nominations I hadn't heard before. I don't remember the other one though I know I listened to it, heh.

Sad Thing is fun but inconsistent (like most Shaimus works). Synthesist was great.

You know the choice is Synthesist when you don't remember what the other one sounded like.... Laughing

The Sad Thing is perfectly fine power pop but lacking in any sort of character to take it to the next level. It just sounds like a lot of other things.

Everything I've heard from Synthesist has been incredible. Can someone point me to a full version of the album? I'm lazy

Haha! If only that were true. The Sad thing is... I listened to this twice today! To think I trusted you, A-P. LOL.

At any rate, after 2 hours of The Sad Thing.. and , idk, maybe 5 seconds of the Synthethist, I realized that this was the easiest vote in the whole tourney so far. Synthethist.

I guess Pitchfork does get it right sometimes! Laughing

ps. There's so much ambient/electronica goodness in this tourney!!! Chill Out, SOL, and now this.

It's been a few months since I last listened to Synthesist, but I can with all confidence say it's really, really good. The Shaimus album reminded me more of post-Pinkerton Weezer than anything, which is never a good sign. Easy vote.

Voted Shaimus, but they did far better on Paper Sun than their follow up. Synthesist was decent.
