The truth is that The stimulus increased employment by between 1.4 million and 3.3 million people, compared with what employment would have been otherwise. That’s according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

As we have written before, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released a report in August that said the stimulus bill has "[l]owered the unemployment rate by between 0.7 percentage points and 1.8 percentage points" and "[i]ncreased the number of people employed by between 1.4 million and 3.3 million."

Simply put, more people would be unemployed if not for the stimulus bill. The exact number of jobs created and saved is difficult to estimate, but nonpartisan economists say there’s no doubt that the number is positive.

Former Bush adviser Karen Hughes and Democratic Rep. James Clyburn both twisted facts to make partisan points on "Meet the Press."

Hughes claimed that the "vast majority" of recent job losses happened under President Obama, when in fact slightly more jobs were lost when her former boss George W. Bush was president.

Bush’s last month in office saw a particularly severe job loss: 779,000. Adding those losses to Obama’s column and subtracting them from that of Hughes’ ex-boss would (incorrectly) put the totals at 3.6 million jobs lost under Bush and more than 4.7 million lost under Obama. Even that wouldn’t be a disparity that we would characterize as "vast." But vast or not, the comparison is wrong.

And for the record, the economy regained 1.1 million of the lost jobs during the last year, and the unemployment rate has declined from its peak of 10.1 percent, reached in October 2009.

You do realize that the reason the unemployment rate has been going down is the fact that people have been out of work so long now that they no longer receive unemployment benefits so are not considered in the unemployment data as unemployed Shocked And if you will recall, I know I do, Mr. Obummer stated that he would have the unemployment rate below 8% Embarassed

Yes, that makes sense.

Quote:

Yes. He was wrong about that. Those projections were a bit too optimistic. To go back to my original point though: The situation would be much worse if it wasn't for the stimulus. See prior post for proof of this.

The economy will not and really can not turn around in a short period of time. It's isn't designed that way, and the problem is a structural one. The one fact you can not avoid though, is the housing and banking fiasco happened under and during Bush's presidency. Obama was elected after the collapse and inherited the fall out. That's a fact, and undebatable! So if we're going to put all the onus on the president, ignoring congress, big business, etc., than Obama isn't the one who started the fire, he is the fire man, the one trying to put out the fire.

So the argument we're having is, is he doing a good enough job or an efficient enough job putting out the fire? And here is where the partisan bickering comes in. My argument, which is supported by facts, is that the fire would be much worse if it wasn't for the stimulus, and the situation is improving, just not at a rapid rate. I've shown you my statistics. You've shown me your charts (which can be created to show distortions more than raw numbers). We're not going to agree because we're both influenced by partisan ideology (In fact, your posts tend to be much more obnoxious in this area), so I'm probably going to stop arguing with you and Gary as it's a serious waste of my time and energy. I need less stress in my life anyway, and I don't come to this site for this kind of thing.

Finally, do you seriously think Sarah Palin can /will win the presidency, Naples? If so, you are seriously deluded. By the way, I'm hoping she is the republican nominee (boy, will that be entertaining!) but it won't happen.

BTW, I haven't made any comments regarding Palin's presidency chances. Sorry you can't understand the charts; the raw data is available from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The charts are an accurate representation of the FACTS over the period shown.

Before you take your ball and go home Mr. Shankly I just want to remind you that those jobs you are so proud of that were created by the taxpayers money in the stimulus came at a cost of $250,000.00 per job. Evil or Very Mad And take a guess who will be paying back the banksters of the unconstitutional FED? YOUR GRANDCHILDREN. Crying or Very sad Now if you don't want to waste time and energy allow me to make a suggestion. How about you and all the other tree hugging socialists not voting in 2012. Stay home and watch Oprah.

Personally I really don't have a partison ideology Mr. Shankly I'm not a Republican or a Democrat. If I had to choose I would go with a Libertarian. Because I believe in the statement "Give me Liberty or give me death" I just want to follow the CONSTITUTION OF REPUBLIC OF THE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Nobama has not even come close to doing that.

Why don't you and all of your "highly evolved" leftist buddies quit blaming Bush for everything? That excuse is getting pretty old.

In case you weren't paying attention, the people have spoken, and spoke loudly despite the obvious media bias for the left wing wacko's. The Democrats (socialists) no longer control the U.S. House of Representatives. They also lost the vast majority of the gubernatorial elections. Why? Because people want LESS government spending, not more with things like Obamacare. People want to create manufacturing jobs so we can compete with China, India, and Mexico and others. Not more government jobs payd for by the taxpayers. We need to do like Ron Paul has been saying for years. GET RID OF THE FED AND GO BACK TO A GOLD STANDARD AND PRINT OUR OWN MONEY. I will vote for anyone who is willing to do that. I don't care if they are a man or a woman. I don't care if they are white, black, brown, red or yellow. Or if they are half white and half black like Obummer. I just want my country back. I want a government for the people by the people.
