The singer here just wishes he was Dave Growl. Still a pretty good song album although nothing like the Jesus Chirist song. It's too supernatural and introspective.

Been listening to Chris Cornell a lot lately. This is easily the best album of all his bands and solo projects. But honestly, only two have ever disappointed. If it weren't for tracks 11 and 14, Superunknown would make my Top 10.

Fyi Dave "Grohl" sang nothing prior to this album's release Smile

One of my favorites ever and sad it gets lumped with other, far inferior "grunge" releases...comparing Soundgarden to the Stone Temple Pilots is like comparing the Vienna Philharmonic to a middle school band.

I don't think that's entirely fair. Soundgarden's better than STP no doubt, but STP is a good band in their own right. Purple is great. And they have two other decent albums. Does Superunknown get lumped with inferior grunge releases?

Yes, perhaps you're right, I am over exaggerating, I just think they have a sense of musicianship above and beyond most rock groups that few (outside of maybe this site) stop to notice.

It's less that they are compared to "inferior" grunge groups than that they are sometimes ignored in discussions of truly amazing bands probably because of the association with that movement.

Definitely one of the best mainstream grunge records. Right up there with STP's Purple and Screaming Trees' Dust. 90s hard rock at its best.

Weird I've listened to this a few times in the past couple days after not touching it for years. Just as good as I remember. He truly is one of the greatest vocalists of all time, and he was right in his prime here.

A song like "The Day I Tried To Live" perfectly encapsulates the strengths of Cornell and Soundgarden, with brilliant vocals and lyrics, completely original guitar work with some odd time signatures, and Matt Cameron's subtly striking percussion. The type of song that i'll never get tired of blasting with the windows down.

And what about "Like Suicide", one the best closers you'll ever hear. Very little not to like here from beginning to end.

words cannot do justice. black hole sun is the worst of horribles and should be on death row. i would give up so much money to not hear that song ever again, but i can't escape it. it fills these walls.

*edit: silver lining: the rest of the album's not bad.

What could possibly be so bad about "Black Hole Sun"? Think

Maybe I feel that way about "Last Friday Night" or something lol.
