There's far too many albums with less than ten votes on here that I'd like to promote (in fact, most albums I enjoy nowadays are never talked about here), but I've been enjoying these most lately:

Birdsong of the Mesozoic - Dawn of the Cycads (which is a compilation, but not one of the EPs or LPs included have more than one vote on here)

Rake - The Art Ensemble of Rake

Baselines by Bill Laswell

1984 by Hugh Hopper

Sworn Eyes by HiM

Denison-Kimball Trio - Soul Machine

Which brings up a bigger issue: once you really get into the depths of enjoying music, where do you go to talk about it? Certainly not here, or rym, or really any online forum. CellarDoor visited me a few weeks ago and we got more recs from each other than we ever did from an online forum within a few days of just talking to each other. So maybe we should have more get togethers, to really expand each other's taste, and really talk about music. We have three people in Austin, TX, and mecca relatively close by, and Satie in New Orleans; let's have a meet up in Austin soon. I have a guest bedroom and a living room with a blowup to house people. Think about it.

My favorite album that no one has ever heard of is Terry Allen's debut. He's an under-appreciated master of outlaw country.

Juarez by Terry Allen

One of my favorite albums from the last 10 years is by the now-defunct indie-folk group The Everbodyfields. This is their third and final album:

Nothing Is Okay by The Everybodyfields

There's also Scott Miller's first three albums. He was in an alt-country band called the Vroys that put out the first album on Steve Earle's label. They enjoyed some success but never took off. So Scott went solo and put out a bunch of good albums. I think his second is his best:

Upside Downside by Scott Miller

And how about Red Stick Ramblers? It's cajun swing, so definitely a niche group. But their second album is especially good:

Bring It On Down by Red Stick Ramblers

Hoyt Axton was a superb country/folk/blues singer/songwriter with a great baritone voice. He was best known for writing songs that became hits for others (Greenback Dollar, Joy To the World, Snowblind Friend, The No No Song). This is hands down my favourite album of his. Recommended to fans of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings.

Life Machine by Hoyt Axton

Joyside were a throwback to Exile On Main Street era Stones that combined the influences of T. Rex, The New York Dolls and The Sex Pistols with a sound that was distinctly Beijing. Their lyrical themes included unrequited love, unfulfilled dreams and shameless, unapologetic glorification of alcoholism.
