A really great album, but it's a shame that Frank Zappa has been appropriated by 14-year-old libertarians who any sort of optimism or world peace ambition in music is dumb.

What music isn't appropriated by 14-year olds in a way? (Please tell me because I'd like to know)

I've never seen 14 year olds try to appropriate Coon Songs.

Let's hope that day never comes.

Actually, I think it was the RussellMael and Finlanu podcast The Really Cool Garbage Can's episode on the Velvet Underground that made my point about 14-year-old libertarians and Frank Zappa.

One of Zappa's best. One of those records that sonically was ahead of it's time but at the same time was what the masses deserved to hear. Zappa had a knack for that stuff.

the tape loop and collage approach Zappa employs minimally here in a more pop format was firmly behind its time, serving as a throwback to such experiments being done all over the world at least a full decade prior if not further back. the pop rock elements he threw in were dull, heavy-handed satire. it's not a bad sounding record, but its stature is severely overstated by people who just trust that Zappa, who had minimal and embarrassing contact with the world of academic music, knew what he was talking about when he positioned himself as some philosopher king of pop music.

It's alright, one of my least favorite Zappa projects.

A wonderful early introduction to the wit and wisdom of Zappa.
