Post subject: Shine a light on an album with less than 10 votes
If you take a look at many artists on BEA many of the albums have less than 10 votes. Some are pretty obscure albums, some are by major artists such as James Brown but ideally we want as many votes for as many great albums as possible. We also often add albums from our collections that are missing from the database so this could be a great place to get them noticed and voted upon.
So the idea is to choose an album you love that currently has less than 10 votes. State genre, year and a little bit about it. Then anyone who's interested can listen and vote and ideally get the album to at least 10 votes.
I hope this isn't a copy of another topic (I did check but got bored after 20 odd pages). I know we have the recommendations thread but as stated this is just for the seemingly unloved albums on this site. Also try not to add new releases that are going to get loads of votes anyway such as Joanna Newsome's next album.
So this is my favourite album from 2002 from Belfast trio Desert Hearts which at the time received some decent reviews but probably sold in the hundreds rather than tens of thousands. Anyway it's a really great album from start to finish which I think many will enjoy if they like the following albums, Winona by the Drop Nineteens and The Photo Album by Death Cab For Cutie.
They really nail the quiet / loud dynamic and the songs are given plenty of room to breathe. They also utilise the girl / boy vocals very well. Strangely for a UK band they actually sound very American with lots of escapism going on in the lyrics talking about California and stuff. The albums penultimate track 'A New End' is a song that would grace Juliana Hatfields album Hey Babe. I have a few ideas as to why an album this good bombed despite good reviews. 1) The British music press at the time was totally focused on The Libertines and the London scene that was growing around them. 2) It's Alt-Rock and was probably to retro sounding and basically nothing new. 3) Probably didn't help that they were based in Belfast.
Unfortunately this album is not on Spotify or YouTube and that's about my limit when it comes to searching for music. So if anyone can find a stream and link it that would be great. They released a second album in 2006 (Hotsy Totsy Nagasaki) which is on Spotify but isn't half as good as this little beauty.
I did manage to find the album opener DSR on YouTube though.
Also, if you want to rec/get recced some underappreciated music, you can check out the alphabet roster in the "Games" Section. Most of the albums have 10+ votes, but it's worth a shot.
One of the best post-rock albums I've ever heard, absolutely gorgeous and extremely emotionally invigorating, it's just about everything I could want out of a post-rock album. _________________ 2023 Chart
This album has 7 votes and when I joined this page, it only had one. It's a pity because I consider it one of my all time favourites. It is from the year 2007.
If you like symphonic rock and progressive rock, you must listen to this concept album. It's a unique album but if I had to name some influences, I would say Mike Oldfield and Camel.
If you listen to it and like it (or don't like it), please write to me

Just finished listening to this...really great!!! Thanks RockyRaccoon

Alphabet Roster looks fun...I've never really ventured into the games section, I'll keep an eye for the next letter.
Oh yeah I've only been on the one vote thing for my whole alphabet roster. My bench there goes pretty deep so here's one I don't have queued up for that series:
People are always on about the garage rockin Thee Oh Sees, but before Master's Bedroom, they had their name stylized a little differently. *And* they were also way quieter and prettier. Don't get me wrong, I do love the rockin stuff. But these songs are all really good, closer to the solo OCS stuff just with a full band. A touch of lo-fi, male+female vocals combining and going all ghostly, there's a bunch to like here. Give it a chance why don't you?
This one has been in my overall chart since day 1. It's one of the most fun records I've ever heard. A bit of plunderphonics mixing 60s doo wop pop and jazz among many other thing. Why it can't find it's way on more charts is beyond me.
And speaking of underappreciated stuff in my overall. This may be my favorite country album of all time, twisting the genre in many many different directions at once. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
