Wouldn’t it just be easier to design it like the ALC with each person who signs up picking an album to discuss for a week?

Probably... totally thought about it... thing is I'm hoping this structure allows for better discussion with the whole voting process. If someone takes the time to want to discuss and album and nobody else cares... dunno.
If this dies in a fire/falls apart I'm more than happy to do so. I agree it is a little chaotic... but maybe for the better.

Here's the problem I foresee with the voting system: if five albums that very few people know get nominated, one of two things will happen: 1. No one will vote or 2. People will vote at random.
If you do it in the ALC format, people will just have an album to listen to, whether it's well known or not. That allows people to do albums that are well known if they want, or albums that are lesser known gems that the submitters believe the community would enjoy. _________________ 2023 Chart

For example, the only album I'd vote for of this selection is Doris, because it's the only one I've heard. That doesn't mean the other albums aren't worth listening to and discussing, it's just that voting for any of them would, on my part, be completely random because I know nothing about them. And randomly voting for an album defeats the whole purpose of the voting system as it no longer accurately reflects the desire of the community. _________________ 2023 Chart

Fantastic points Rocky. I didn't think of it that way, so thanks for pointing that out. I guess I assumed that it would go just like finding new music... (one thinks... oh I think I've heard about that album/artist... I'd like to know more) And then of course if it doesn't get voted for, it doesn't make the rotation. In this example, if everyone thinks the same as you, then Doris wins and we move on.
I'm hoping it feeds participation, not albums (anyone can go listen to albums on their own)... if that makes any sense. If the other method gets more participation, then kiboshing this totally makes sense.
But I think what you are saying, is what if there is a fantastic album to discuss, but the herd doesn't realize it yet? Well in this case I suppose it is up to them to use their freedom of choice to decide if they want to listen to it anyway, and then re-suggest the album stating, hey I listened to this and this is actually really cool... I second we listen to that album next time around...
Does everyone else feel the same as Rocky? Totally not meaning to devalue Rocky's opinion (really glad he brought up these points), but to wanting the community to decide in the spirit of this voting idea.
Totally not trying to rock the boat. If the majority feels that way, feel free to delete this whole thing from the stickied, if not altogether, and start it out right... this is my first attempt at a new idea. I think Gowi has agreed this is a mess as well, so I'd love to hear what some other peeps think.

Another idea that StreetSpirit said is that we just start doing it... who needs some system that people manage?

I like the weekly voting system. I think it brings in more engagement to start than one person just choosing an album and creating a thread unilaterally. _________________ Add me on RYM

Yeah, I do. I feel the current way it is setup is insular and not engaging at all.

The way I figure it, people don't have to listen to each album to decide what to vote on. They can simply scan the bea pages for each album and see what they want to hear more about.
A possible improvement would be to have the nominator say why the album is worthy of discussion.
I think the voting idea is fine. If people vote randomly, that's fine, we'll still end up with an album to discuss.
