Wait, how the fuck are we getting from dumb things we have said about music to hip hop discussion? That's a small forum community for ya, I guess. _________________ sig
Again, this is to Gary. I know you don't like Kanye very much, but what ones of these haven't you heard, cause they're are pretty solid hip-hop albums:
It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back - Public Enemy
Raising Hell - Run-D.M.C.
Pauls Boutique - Beastie Boys
Paid In Full - Eric B. & Rakim
3 Feet High And Rising - De La Soul
The Low End Theory - A Tribe Called Quest
Straight Outta Compton - N.W.A
Criminal Minded - Boogie Down Productions
Illmatic - Nas (on my chart, and my personal recommendation)
The Chronic - Dr. Dre
Ready To Die - Notorious B.I.G.
The Blueprint - Jay-Z
Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) - Wu Tang Clan
Things Fall Apart - The Roots
That's about all I can think of right now. Most of it is from before 2000, but the was probably hip-hop's shining moment. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!
I'm really glad you're open minded about this. In considering modern hip-hop with great lyrics and great production I have a few suggestions, embedded below:
Quest doesn't use any programming in their early music-all live standup bass, real drums, etc.[/youtube]
These 2 are good
In the second one I like the use of stand up bass and the sound of the snare. If they are programmed, I have been fooled
I do make music without actual instruments now. It's a lot less time consuming and less expensive. I've recently downloaded more guitars (Stratocasters & Telecasters ) and some bass guitars and more amps and effects and the gap has for sure closed a great deal between "real" and programmed guitar.

Actually, out of this list, I've heard about 1/2 of them. The majority of what I have listened to is from the music that people I am with were playing it. So, to be more specific, I guess you could say that I overheard in the background.
Raising Hell and The Chronic stand out for me off this list. _________________ .

I remember when I first saw this video like 25 years ago while watching MTV with some friends and band mates and we all knew, for better or worse, we were about to see a major change in music.

I remember the same thing happened in the 70's with disco. But that only stayed huge for just a few years and quickly faded.
I can remember liking some disco music and there were people who hated me for it. Then I got into new wave music and again there was a certain % of friends that were appalled at me for listening to new wave.
Which I still do today

This one is from 1994 and has as much meaning, insight, and truth as any song I've ever heard. No matter what decade or genre
