i'm not Mexican.... people always think i'm white until i tell them my name. I'm more of an assimilated Mexican, my family isn't that big so there wasn't really anyone to teach me the ways of the Mexican. My parents always wanted us to learn English and be American so they never really pushed the Mexican culture on us. |

Have you been accused of being racist? Just accuse them right back of playing 'the race card' and your actions will be excused!
As a general rule, if you don't do or say racist things people tend not to accuse you of racism.

I dunno, people can often misconstrew comments as racism.
For example:
"A majority of prisoners in the American prison system are black" is not a racist comment, but some people hear such a comment and automatically assume the speaker means to say: "a majority of prisoners in the American prison system are black, because black people innately exhibit criminal behaviour".

It really depends on tone and context. If you're talking about the prison industrial complex then there's no reason that statement should be construed as racist; if it comes up in the middle of a conversation while you're watching an evening news story about a mugging you can see how the subtext would be a bit more sinister.
