Every month I'm going to try to make a year list. I'll try and document this is in my diary. These will be shorter reviews than my main features. This way every year, I can get a full decade under my belt. I figured I'd start with the year that Rhyner's exploring: 1991. Others are welcome to join us!!! It would be kind of fun.
So... What are your top 10 albums from 1991? (Ranked in order)
If you're feeling ambitious, you can list up to 20! Less ambitious? Feel free to just share your to 5!
Peace!

Mercury Rev...Yerself Is Steam
The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld
Ned's Atomic Dustbin....God Fodder
Type O Negative ....Slow Deep and Hard
Future Sound of London...Accelerator
Butthole Surfers....Pioughed
My Life with The Thrill Kill Kult...Sexplosion!
Big Audio Dynamite... The Globe
Spacemen 3...Losing Touch with Your Mind
Mari Wilson.. Cry Me a River
1991 was generally not a very good year. The late 80s and early 90s is like one of my least favorite periods. But all these albums are pretty good

I have neglected filling in much for 91 but this has made me think, and I think I like Sonny Sharrock - Ask The Ages more than My Bloody Valentine - Loveless.

Love your list!!! Especially your top 2! Is that Spacemen 3 album a comp? I'm not familiar with that one.

Yeah, it's a comp of alternate versions and unreleased Trax. Some are just unedited long versions of songs from their other albums.

1991 was the breakthrough year for the whole Seattle grunge thing with Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, but it took a few years for that to take full effect.
1990 is a year that I've found difficult to find much to like. 1989 is a year in which I like a lot.

1991 has some phenomenal albums but looking at my ratings they drop off really quickly after the top few. My favorites are the obvious ones but some of the others haven't been mentioned:

2. Slint - Spiderland
3. Nirvana - Nevermind
4. A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
5. Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
6. Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
7. NoMeansNo - 0+2=1
8. Primal Scream - Screamadelica
9. Temple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog
10. Pearl Jam - Ten
11. Massive Attack - Blue Lines _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.
