Just for you, I'll come back just to post what is probably the best article that has ever appeared on FoxNews.com: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/01/...z1iyrr6xLE
Here's what I think is the choice meat from the article:
Quote: | When I hear terms like “God’s design” and “Biblical marriage” I have to wonder who decides these things.
Our cultural adaptation of marriage has certainly evolved through the ages—had God not intervened, Joseph could have had Mary stoned to death for being pregnant with a child that was not his. (An engagement at that time was considered the same as a marriage.)
That is just one example—so many books could be written on the history of marriage. Yet we keep a death grip on the scriptures that suit us—and the translation of those scriptures becomes more a matter of tradition, opinion and convenience than the Word of God.
The hypocrisy of a Christian parent who shrugs her shoulders over one child’s “living in sin” and says, “What’s a mother to do,” but goes to pieces when she hears of her daughter’s homosexuality, is appalling. I was that mother.
If one can find anything amusing in all this, it is that those who are upset about sex outside of marriage are the same ones who are opposed to marriage equality.
The principles for heterosexual marriage are the same for same-sex marriage—love, commitment, faithfulness, loyalty, honor and respect. How can we deny that to anyone? |

I'm a Canadian and an Obama supporter but I think there is always the opportunity to hang the bad economy on the current administration. People don't want change per se, they really want success. If they think Romney or anyone else can deliver the US out of the current doldrums they will vote him in. I hope Obama wins a re-election, I think he's a leader extraordinaire for our times, but I don't think he's a shoo-in for a second term. _________________ Top Canadian songs, keyless entry remotes, home care, whatever...

Funny to see this thread come back today when the election situation has very much changed. According to polls, the popular vote is up for grabs and they are running neck and neck, but Obama still has an advantage when it comes to the electoral college. Of course, it's that' what matters. Still, a lot can and will happen before November.

Ron Paul definitely won't win this election (sorry Gary), but at this rate he may very well have a shot NEXT election, especially if Obama wins this year. |
Except Ron Paul will be in his 80s next time...
What I don't get - how come the Republicans can't come up with a better candidate? Cain, Perry, Bachman, Santorum and Palin are all stupid or scary, and Ron Paul appeals only to libertarians. Romney is a default choice. No matter - better for sanity that a Democrat gets back in anyway. Maybe Obama will grow a pair and actually bring about change.

I think any Republican that could potentially be a good candidate is smart enough not to run against an incumbent. It's much easier to wait four years and run in a completely open field of candidates.

It'll be fairly close but even though the GOP finally lined up behind the least apparently lunatic in an ultra-right wing field I agree that Barry will win a second term. Not on his own merits mind you but on the right's inability to steer back off of their completely derailed course of American talibanism.
PS. Homersecsjal rights won't be a deciding factor this time either. Mind you, I'm all for but it isn't the most important issue out there.

With presidential races so close, you can make a solid case that pretty much any issue on which the candidates disagree is a deciding one.

Sure. But if every issue is the deciding one you look pretty foolish if you herald your own particular sub-issue as the one that made the difference. The go gays already vote Barry and the no gays already vote Romney.
