What exactly did he repair again?

Are you referring to the 43% increase he applied to military spending?
Are you referring to how, under his administration, unemployment reach an all-time low of almost 11%?
Or that, prior to Obama, he held the biggest deficit in history, increasing the American overall deficit by 186% (keep in mind that Obama only increased the deficit by 32%)?

I mean, fuck, the Obama Administration is by no means "good" at dealing with the economy, but comparing them to the Reagan administration makes them look like financial prodigies.

Right on... I love how many Republicans canonize Reagan as an ideal president, who solved all sorts of economic, social and diplomatic problems for America. They forget that Reagan oversaw an increase in the gap between the rich and poor, ballooning deficits and debt, the decline of America's industrial sector, and massive military spending. But he made Americans feel good to be American, so all is forgotten and forgiven. Eh?

yeah, the national debt started skyrocketing under Ronald Reagan. If any one party is to blame for the current national debt, look no further than 20 of the last 32 years of republican rule. (And of those remaining 12 of Dem control, that included a Bill Clinton tenure that balanced the budget into a surplus).

Ronald Reagan was a great example of how to be an effective politician, but his actual policies we're absolutely horrible. You can blame Reagan, but more so all those buisnessman who dictated his campaign, for essentially kickstarting a second gilded age in America, where a very few just get rich and richer and the rest of us struggle to make a basic living. Not only did he greatly increase the national debt, largely through tax cuts and big military spending increases, but he also removed many of the financial industry regulations that we're put in place to avoid the mistakes that led to the great depression, as well as allowing banks to privatize their savings and loan subdivisions (which was previously forbidden to avoid corruption). No surprise that led to many corruption scandals and another stock market crash in '87. Reagen may be hailed as a modern god by the republicans, but the only real legacy I see is the increasing gap between the rich and the poor and the decline of the middle class in favor of the richest and most powerful (who naturally have more money than ever to influence elections) and for giving the impression that ideology is always more important than those dreaded facts.

Though even he raised taxes a few times in his presidiency and occasionally sought comprises from the opposition party. I don't think he'd make it anywhere in today's republican party.

Ronald Reagan

At the end of his two terms in office, Ronald Reagan viewed with satisfaction the achievements of his innovative program known as the Reagan Revolution, which aimed to reinvigorate the American people and reduce their reliance upon Government. He felt he had fulfilled his campaign pledge of 1980 to restore "the great, confident roar of American progress and growth and optimism."

On February 6, 1911, Ronald Wilson Reagan was born to Nelle and John Reagan in Tampico, Illinois. He attended high school in nearby Dixon and then worked his way through Eureka College. There, he studied economics and sociology, played on the football team, and acted in school plays. Upon graduation, he became a radio sports announcer. A screen test in 1937 won him a contract in Hollywood. During the next two decades he appeared in 53 films.

From his first marriage to actress Jane Wyman, he had two children, Maureen and Michael. Maureen passed away in 2001. In 1952 he married Nancy Davis, who was also an actress, and they had two children, Patricia Ann and Ronald Prescott.

As president of the Screen Actors Guild, Reagan became embroiled in disputes over the issue of Communism in the film industry; his political views shifted from liberal to conservative. He toured the country as a television host, becoming a spokesman for conservatism. In 1966 he was elected Governor of California by a margin of a million votes; he was re-elected in 1970.

Ronald Reagan won the Republican Presidential nomination in 1980 and chose as his running mate former Texas Congressman and United Nations Ambassador George Bush. Voters troubled by inflation and by the year-long confinement of Americans in Iran swept the Republican ticket into office. Reagan won 489 electoral votes to 49 for President Jimmy Carter.

On January 20, 1981, Reagan took office. Only 69 days later he was shot by a would-be assassin, but quickly recovered and returned to duty. His grace and wit during the dangerous incident caused his popularity to soar.

Dealing skillfully with Congress, Reagan obtained legislation to stimulate economic growth, curb inflation, increase employment, and strengthen national defense. He embarked upon a course of cutting taxes and Government expenditures, refusing to deviate from it when the strengthening of defense forces led to a large deficit.

A renewal of national self-confidence by 1984 helped Reagan and Bush win a second term with an unprecedented number of electoral votes. Their victory turned away Democratic challengers Walter F. Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro.

In 1986 Reagan obtained an overhaul of the income tax code, which eliminated many deductions and exempted millions of people with low incomes. At the end of his administration, the Nation was enjoying its longest recorded period of peacetime prosperity without recession or depression.

In foreign policy, Reagan sought to achieve "peace through strength." During his two terms he increased defense spending 35 percent, but sought to improve relations with the Soviet Union. In dramatic meetings with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, he negotiated a treaty that would eliminate intermediate-range nuclear missiles. Reagan declared war against international terrorism, sending American bombers against Libya after evidence came out that Libya was involved in an attack on American soldiers in a West Berlin nightclub.

By ordering naval escorts in the Persian Gulf, he maintained the free flow of oil during the Iran-Iraq war. In keeping with the Reagan Doctrine, he gave support to anti-Communist insurgencies in Central America, Asia, and Africa.

Overall, the Reagan years saw a restoration of prosperity, and the goal of peace through strength seemed to be within grasp.

This info is nice and all, but I would have found it much more interesting if you wrote what you thought in your own words instead of posting videos, cartoons, or the words of others. (and 'likewise' or any other glib one-word response doesn't count)

I think the comments about Reagan were progressive talk points, all wrong. I don't have the time or desire to debate something that occurred years ago which we can't change now. Furthermore, it really has little to do with the theme: Democrat party 2012.

You brought Reagan into the theme when you posted that image of him, arguing that he could fix the problems that Obama couldn't. You do this all the time - change the topic, then complain that we're off track instead of defending your postings. Oh well, I guess I shouldn't expect any different...

Clinton said no president could fix it in four years, but Reagan fixed in four years. Obama messed it up further in 3.5 years!

Do you really want to go there? OK!

Which is the greater lie, and which had the greatest cost to the US in terms of money and lives? In fact, (let's take one of your favorite issues) Which one added more to the overall national debt?

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky." -Bill Clinton

or

"There is no doubt that the regime of Saddam Hussein possesses weapons of mass destruction."
- George W. Bush

By the way, one of the reasons there is still so much enmity between the parties is because of the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Democrats and probably a lot of independents saw that whole witch hunt as a huge waste of taxpayer money, as was the war in Iraq, and both were led by Republican leaders, the same people who are concerned about the national debt only when a Democrat is in office.
