2 years after Rolling Stone published the best 500 albums in their magazine and website, they came out with a book which made some corrections to this list. You should use that amended list, as it eliminates some duplicates from unnecessary greatest hits compilations, bringing in 8 more albums in from beyond the 500 of the original list.

I have typed the new list into a text file if you need it.

Hi ChromeAce, if you could post a link to the new chart (or PM me one), I'll check it out (we only post the top 100 albums on this site so there may not be as many as 8 corrections.) Thanks for pointing out, very grateful.

Chrome's right, here's a link to the list on RYM:

http://rateyourmusic.com/lists/list_vie...;start=400

I've seen this updated version in many other places too. Some of the differences between this and the older version:

1. Instead of Presley's "The Sun Sessions", there is "Sunrise".
2. Hank Williams' "40 Greatest Hits" is now in the top 100.
3. Instead of "King of Delta Blues Singers", there is Robert Johnson's "Complete Recordings".

I haven't looked at the revised edition though.

Yeah. Though I think the decision to rank "Meet The Beatles!" and "40 Greatest Hits" higher was good. At least "Meet The Beatles!" makes up for the strange decision to omit "With The Beatles" this time around. But "Trout Mask Replica" is rated lower. Evil or Very Mad "The Stone Roses" has FINALLY been added!

I think the list is pretty good - it certainly covers some great albums that we don't seem to notice here.

Yeah, but the problem, for me at least, is the rankings, mostly. Well, they certainly couldn't please everybody. Oh, and one more thing: it also covers some albums that we SHOULDN'T notice here. Laughing

Well... one person's trash is another's treasure, and since the list was a compilation of many people's lists, no one would be expected to like it all. Smile

I've heard around 170 of the 500, and my average rating is 4, so I'm pretty pleased with that. Cool

If that's 4 out of 100, that would make sense! Laughing
