Why should the government pay for your education?

Education is a privilege, not a fucking right.

How would the Americans have sent their landing craft across the Atlantic? Preserving Britain meant the allies had a base to liberate Europe. America's contribution to WWII was huge... but don't sell the British Empire short.

You mean post-secondary education, right?

I think government needs to invest in post-secondary education to make it affordable, but yes, people should pay for the privilege (just not be bankrupted).

As usual Taliban opinions are not so well thought through. Sure, you could argue that it's a privilege and not a right but it takes a very limited thought process to equal that with not using public funding is automatically right. Same goes for the everything should be "free" crowd. There obviously is no right and wrong here and I'm not knowledgable enough to butt into Canadian politics, but it could be argued that providing subsidized education leads to more intelligent scholars rather than just well off ones which very well might be beneficial enough to the country in the long run to warrant the extra expenses.

Except most people do see education as a right up to a certain age don't they? I suppose you're talking about university education rather than education as a whole though, well I hope so at least.

But university education is a privelege that's earned how? By having wealthy parents? Sounds great.

Sorry to sound insensitive, but yeah. Pretty much. If you have money you can afford all sorts of things - a better house, better food, a better car and, yeah, a better education, too.

If university is COMPLETELY out of your reach income wise, get a scholarship. Actually do shit in high school. Work for it. CAN'T get a scholarship? Tough fucking luck. Don't go to university. Christ, SOMEBODY's gotta flip the burgers. You know what happens if EVERYBODY goes to university? A university diploma won't mean shit. And it already HARDLY means shit, why dilute it any further?

Im not talking about everybody going to university, I'm talking about the best and brightests being able to go to university regardless of who their parents are. Education is not a commodity, like cars or food, it's a heck of a lot more valuable than that.

Your answer to the problem is that if you have the misfortune of being born to poor parents, then flip burgers? So you don't give a shit about fairness or social mobility? Jeez I can't really express how much I disagree with everything you've just said.
