But speaking of military service , i like how that's a path to citizenship -- serving in our military.

Of course, forced military service exists. It's called the draft.

The United States discontinued the draft in 1973, moving to an all-volunteer military force, thus there is no mandatory conscription.

That is the problem. How about forced military service, work camps or soup kitchen duty for those who want entitlements?

1. Healthcare is a right. Not an entitlement. You can have healthcare without becoming Greece. The students in Quebec who want to abolish post-secondary tuition - That's entitlement.

2. Work camps? Forced military service? Sounds eerily like 1930s Germany. Hey - even soup kitchen works - Hitler himself doled out servings of soup in propaganda videos.

3. You misunderstood me. I don't have to do jack in terms of medical prodding. It doesn't matter if I old or young, tall or short, 125 lbs or 225 lbs. I get medical coverage, because we as a society have decided we all pay for it so we all get it. It's a human right. You think Canada is a socialist wasteland where entitled people sit on their ass and wait for the government to coddle us? We work, pay our taxes, and get reasonable services from our government - more than the US, less than Europe. Funny - haven't we emerged with the best debt to GDP ratio compared to the US? Isn't the unemployment rate lower in Canada? I think our system works fine.

4. Americans need to realize that Healthcare doesn't cause what's happening in Europe. Debt does. Stupid governments who borrow to provide excessive services does. Retirement at age 60 does. Healthcare is not the boogieman. Go back to fearing Muslims, Communists, illegal immigrants, killer bees and bath salts.

Consider the issue from a neutral perspective, and you'll see. Or you could just keep viewing the world through your Ayn Rand coloured glasses. Rolling Eyes

With the Supreme Court ruling on President Obama’s health care law, everyone is wondering what’s next for big government. Here are some ideas for federal policymakers to consider:

Federal Broccoli Act of 2013: Eat your broccoli, else pay the IRS $1,000.

Federal Recycling Act of 2014: Fill your blue box and put on the curb, else pay the IRS $2,000.

Federal Green Car Act of 2015: Make your next car battery powered, else pay the IRS $3,000.

Federal Domestic Jobs Act of 2016: Don’t exceed 25 percent foreign content on family consumer purchases, else pay the IRS $4,000.

Federal Obesity Act of 2017: Achieve listed BMI on your mandated annual physical, else pay the IRS $5,000.

Federal National Service Act of 2018: Serve two years in the military or the local soup kitchen, else pay the IRS $6,000.

Federal Housing Efficiency Act of 2019: Don’t exceed 1,000 square feet of living space per person in your household, else pay the IRS $7,000.

Federal Population Growth Act of 2020: Don’t exceed two children per couple, else pay the IRS $8,000.

Smart Americans realize that government controlled Healthcare is part of the cause of what's happening in Europe. Stupid goverments who borrow to provide excessive services including health care cause debt. Healthcare is not the boogieman, the costs and availability are. That is why many Canadians come to America for their healthcare needs.

I choose the land of the free, not Canada or the home of the progressives and socialists.

You do realize that Americans spend more on medical expenses than anyone, don't you?

Once again - healthcare has not caused the problem in Europe. They provide much more than healthcare to their citizens. I agree that healthcare is a cost, but so are stop signs - hardly a significant part of the problem. Nations like Greece borrowed at artificially low interest rates because they were tied to the Euro, but didn't have the capacity to service their debt. They borrowed because their economies sucked, and Europeans enjoyed much greater government programs than Canadians do that needed paying for. Did you get that last bit? I won't argue that some European government go too far in providing services - way beyond what Canada does, and it's led to debt. Canada's government is NOT drowning in debt in comparison to Greece, Italy, UK, and especially the US (as you love to illustrate in your debt postings). We are NOT buried by taxes. This is NOT a socialist country. It is a perception created by right-wing Americans to justify their fear-mongering of healthcare. The alternative seems to be the system you already had, where millions of Americans go without health coverage, face crippling medical bills, or get shafted by their profit-seeking health insurance companies. For the rich, the US healthcare system is the best in the world. Not everyone is rich.

And trust me, Canada is the land of the free. We don't have a Patriot Act here.
