I believe we will be able to agree that if there are no guns, legal or illegal, there will be no gun related crimes.

We can agree.

We may be able to agree that there is also some correlation between the ease with which one can get hold of guns and the amount of gun related crimes, although it is obviously not a perfect correlation as other matters also influence it.

We can agree.

If we can agree that far then the question is whether that extra crime is a price worth paying for the right to bear arms with no or limited control or not.

We agree.

That is a political question where there is no right or wrong.

Not sure we agree on this one.

If we can't agree that far it could be for one of two reasons: either there isn't enough evidence to show that this is the case or one party is in denial (or hasn't bothered to check) about the facts.

Could it be that your first assumption is non-accomplishable? Can we ever be without guns, legal or illegal? Many drugs are illegal and there is still drug related crime.

It is non-accomplishable and nothing I promote. The statement was only made to reach the conclusion that the amount of guns in circulation have something to do with the amount of gun-related crime. However, that particular assumption's non-accomplishableness does nothing to change the need for a sensible debate on what kind of laws and regulations we need to have to minimize the amount of gun-related crime while still allowing guns for both hunting and sport shooting. Just because we will never get all the way doesn't mean it's a good idea to go free-for-all.
