I could have sworn there was thread on this subject, but I couldn't find it, and who wants to wade through all of Naples and Gary's angry conservative and misguided conspiracy threads?
Anyways, as you may have heard, VP candidate, Paul Ryan is a fan of Rage Against the Machine. In case you haven't done your research, politicians don't come any more fiscally conservative in America than Paul Ryan. He's about as right wing as it gets in America. On the other hand, Rage Against the Machine is arguably the most left wing outspoken band in rock n roll history. So what gives? How is it that outspoken conservatives like Paul Ryan or let's say, RF Naples, for example, can listen to a group with an obvious liberal message in their lyrics and still enjoy them?
I know lyrics are only one part of the song, but seriously, Naples, how are you able to do that? How do you like an obvious liberal band like U2, or Bruce Springsteen (Reagan missed the point of Born in the USA) for example? Come to think of it, rock n roll musicians in general, tend to think like liberals. Do you just ignore the message of the lyrics entirely? I guess the big question is, how much does a band's politics affect your enjoyment of their music?
Because I a man, can I enjoy female musicians? Or for the GLBTs, because I am a man, can I enjoy male musicians?

Two bad analogies in one sentence. Female musicians don't generally spread a message completely opposite of your views and, which may help you with your homophobia, that gay men are women is not true.
On another note though, as CNN reported on this issue, the lyrics of a song are often separated from the music for the listener and it is very common that they are given no thought whatsoever. There are plenty good songs where the lyrics stink, and quite a few I like where I disagree with the message of the lyrics. In the Ryan case there are two possibilities: 1. He hasn't realized what the lyrics are about which makes him laughable (which is what the die hard libs will run with no matter what is said from this point on), or 2. He does indeed notice the message but is big enough not to let politics stand in the way of his enjoyment of a good song.
Females often sing about their men and vice versa. I am white but enjoy music by blacks. I am conservative and enjoy music by liberals. I am human but haven't listened to music by aliens.

I have noticed your liberal leanings Bork, yet you often profess enjoyment for many concervative country musicians.
I believe you missed both my points. Here they are again:
1. Comparing being hardcore right-wing yet listening to radically left-wing music to being a man and listening to female singers is not saying a whole lot.
2. I spoke out in favor of listening to music that does not line up with your political beliefs and issued a statement in defense of your vp candidate.
You got my political leanings wrong too, but that's another matter. I consider myself conservative. That don't make the candidates put forward by the most ultra right-wing, religiously bigoted, homophobic and racist members of the American republican party any more possible to support. The GOP is labelled conservative by tradition only.

That's the realest shit I've ever read.
