It wouldn't make me more religious because I plain don't believe in God, but it' make me respect the church more.

Good point! I'm an atheist too but I'd consider the fellowship and positive aspects of a church if it were more accepting of homosexuality.

It's easier to keep a group together if you can define a common enemy. As blacks, jews or women are no longer legal targets, church clings to homersecschals as the incarnation of the devil. It will change soon as it becomes to costly, and they'll move on to hating on someone else.

Hypocrisy has never been an obstacle for religious man. Why should it be on this issue?

Hasn't muslims been a target for roughly 1000 years? In changing forms, but still.

As for homosexuality and the church, I have to laugh in exasperation at the idiocy of it all.

Good observation. Muslim-bashing will probably stick around longer with the religious than gay-bashing will. As usual, with the vast majority lack of proper education and exposure to intelligent thoughts are the main culprits. Otherwise intelligent people are being lead to hold beliefs that are by all civilized measures erroneous and that they would not cling to was it not for the bigoted and hateful teachings of those who claim to be morally more elevated because of their reliance on fairy tales to know right from wrong.
