imo it's probably the greatest "metal" album ever recorded, if you can even do it justice in just calling it that.

It's super eclectic, drawing influences from folk music, honky tonk, jazz, prog, death metal, alt. rock - it's pretty divine.

It's also probably one of the greatest musical bildungsromans ever put together - using the dramatic symbolism of a dystopian future to accentuate the album's themes of adolescent growth.

One of my favourite examples of this is on the track "Desert Of Song" during which the protagonist is grounded by his parents and his stereo gets taken away, which is painted through his eyes in a great hyperbolic epic of a dystopian alien overlord banning all music. Check it out.
