Much of the debate in the country involves issues like philosophy, ethics (i.e. abortion), statistics and economics, and a whole array of other topics. These issues involve complex arguments with few clear, apparent answers. Certainty on these issues is pretty much never well founded; so what's their biggest flaw?

They're so goddamn certain about every stance they have that they refuse to compromise and listen to the opposition on any. single. issue.

what do you think about this?

I think that the base idea of conservationism has fair points, and in some cases I agree with them. The problem is that to be a prominent conservatist, you have to succumb to the extremist GOP, who are the real problem here.

I feel like the moderate republicans have all either retired or, like you said, succumbed to the far right. Both parties are guilty of having become polarized, but I feel that the republican party has swung farther to the right than the democrats have swung to the left. Of course the core philosophy of conservatism has rational ideas, but today's republican party is very much separated from these core philosophies, and instead follows narrow perversions of them

I agree, moderate rebublicans just have such a hard time getting elected because democrats don't wanna vote for a republican, and most republicans will just vote for the popularized GOP extremist.

The problem with the US is that everyone is so anti everyone else that nobody can get anything done. The Republicans are so busy hating and distorting everything that Obama does that even when he chooses a Republican for his cabinet he's met with opposition. The Democrats are so busy saying that everything the Republicans do is stupid that they won't listen to them any more. And the people eat it up and pass it along. The US Government has reached more of a standstill than people realize. Both sides are equally to blame. Nothing positive is ever said anymore...it's all about the negative, and it's gotten to the point where all anyone can say is how bad the other guy is. If it doesn't end soon, the US Government is gonna go plop. Big time. We need to stop buying into the hate and the lies and make our leaders accountable. It's not supposed to be about them...it's supposed to be about us. That's what we should be mad about. Not Obama's birth certificate, or the Tea Party, or any of that crap.

BOTH sides are wrong. And it's killing us.

...well, yeah, if you're in America. Other countries don't have a "GOP".

The problem with the Republican Party is Rupert Murdoch's stranglehold on conservative media and post-Reagan anti-intellectualism.

Sorry, I realize my views are America centered.. I just don't know enough about other countries to speak for them.

I actually mostly agree with this. Nothing will be gained by bashing the other side. Also as lethal said earlier, nothing will be gained by my revenge spamming Naples. I'm done now. Now let's show Naples that it is possible to have an intelligent conversation without reverting to name calling and comic spamming
