|
Well, I guess he didn't learn anything from all of his time in prison after the church burnings and murder. Oh Black Metal, you'll forever be known for this...
http://www.metalinjection.net/latest-ne...a-massacre
Quote: | Varg Vikernes is more famous for his murders than his music. While Burzum gained much noterity, it was his church burnings and 1993 murder of Mayhem guitarist Øystein 'Euronymous' Aarseth which gained him notoriety, being labeled one of the worst crimes in black metal history.
Varg served 15 years in prison for his crime, and has been free since 2009, until earlier today when French authorities arrested him on suspicious of planning a large scale act of terrorism. Oh, Varg!
Authorities' curiosity was sparked when Varg received a copy of the manifesto of Anders Behring Breivik, who according to EuroNews is a " far-right terrorist responsible for the July 2011 Oslo bombing and Utoeya Massacre which left 77 dead." Varg discussed the manifesto on his website and found much to disagree with Breivik on, namely his killing of innocent Norwegians:
“To Breivik I can only say I hope you do kill yourself. You have killed more Norwegians than the entire Muslim population in Norway has done the last 40 years, and you claim to be a Norwegian nationalist and patriot fighting (alongside your Jewish masters) against Islam, to protect us against their crimes!? I am sorry to say so, but you have made a big mistake. Islam has been imported to Europe by Jews, so that guys like you would run to the Jews and fight for them like you did when you murdered future mothers of Norwegian children. Death to you and to all other ‘European’ Zionists out there as well! You are the main problem for Europe, because guys like you allow the Jews to run Europe into the ditch. The Jews would not have been able to do anything to us if it hadn’t been for Christian losers like you!”
He ultimately preached that Europeans need to embrace Paganism:
“If you, dear European nationalists, really want to save Europe (as a biological term) you have to realise that the only thing to do is to cast aside all Christian other international nonsense and embrace only the European (i.e. Pagan) values and ideals and if you like the European deities as well,” said the posting, dated December 13. “If you work for Christianity in any way you work for the Jews. Plain and simple.”
While authorities were keeping close watch on Varg, his French wife, Marie Chachet purchased four rifles legally with her shooting permit and that's when authorities acted, believing a plan was being put into motion. That was enough to get Varg and his wife arrested earlier today on his farm by the Central Directorate of Interior Intelligence (DCRI).
To wit, here is a great quote from the mayor of the town where Varg lives:
The mayor of Salon La Tour, where Vikernes and his wife lived, said he had been surprised by the arrest. “I didn’t notice anything strange (about Vikernes) other than that he liked to wear military costumes and liked Gothic music,” Jean-Claude Chauffour told French media BFM TV.

Lol I just read about that! That dude should just be put in prison and never let out. He's clearly mentally unstable. _________________

Since I've got this topic going, might as well raise a few interesting questions...
Can you like the music of someone who disgusts you as a human being?
Would you buy the music of a convicted murderer?
Are there artists whose music you can no longer enjoy because of their personality or actions?
Does violent music provide insight into the mind of the performer, or is it just music and nothing more? _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Absolutely. You can appreciate their art without approving of them as a person. You can judge them as a person, and you can judge their art, but never judge their art based on who they are as a person. _________________ 2023 Chart

To this question, yes. I own an album by Charles Manson, and it's pretty good. The dude's a murdering psychopath but that doesn't keep me from liking his album. _________________ 2023 Chart

While I agree with you, I think it definitely creates certain prejudices that make it harder to like the music. It's an obstacle, but not a boundary. Like Kanye's egomania forces me to approach his music wanting to dislike it. But he's good, so it's hard to overcome.
That said, if I were to find out that an artist I really admired was also a child molester, I may feel a bit violated myself _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

His folk album is pretty good? More like about uneven and full of mediocre songwriting outside of a few exceptions.
