I want to construct playlists covering the whole Beatles catalog, with the best cover of each song.

For those songs that the Beatles did not write, the default will be the original where possible, or the best version where I can't determine the original.

This has been discussed before:

www.besteveralbums.com/phpBB2/viewtopic...mp;start=0

So I have compiled those and added a few of my own:

-Twist & Shout - The Isley Brothers

With the Beatles
-Please Mister Postman - The Carpenters
-Roll Over Beethoven - Chuck Berry
-You Really Got a Hold On Me - Smokey Robinson

Hard Day's Night
-A Hard Day's Night - Mrs. Miller
-And I Love Her - Jose Feliciano

Beatles For Sale
-Rock and Roll Music - Chuck Berry
-Kansas City - Wilbert Harrison
-Words of Love - Buddy Holly
-Honey Don't - Carl Perkins
-Every Little Thing She Does - Yes

Help!

-You've Got to Hide Your Love Away - Eddie Vedder
-Ticket to Ride - The Carpenters
-Ticket to Ride - Echo & the Bunnymen

I don't know if you're aware of them, but the Minnesota Beatles Project albums are pretty great. Things I've enjoyed most:

We Can Work it Out - Tim Mahoney (not great but my favorite off of Volume 1)
I've Just Seen a Face - The Pistol Whipping Party Penguins (less for quality and more for idea. Also that band name)
Good Morning Good Morning - Soul Asylum
Tomorrow Never Knows - Meat Puppets
Golden Slumbers - Communist Daughter
Help - Cloud Cult
Don't Let Me Down - Me and My Arrow (love the band name, and it's a pretty good version. Not as emotional, a little more church choiry, but still good)
Dear Prudence - The Honeydogs
Girl - Devotchka (oh this one ... good lord it's wonderful. My favorite I think. By far)

Also anything Jake Shimabukuro comes within 15 feet of is wonderful:

Arthur Alexander's original version of 'Anna (Go To Him)' is awesome and blows the socks off the Beatles cover!
