- Post subject: Streaming sites (general discussion)
|
One of the other threads is kind of turning into a streaming site discussion, and I thought a thread like this might be worth a try.
Outside of its issues with artist royalties, I personally dislike Spotify quite a lot. I just find it invasive, self-serving and obnoxious (and what's with the dark, bleak colour scheme?). Deezer is a streaming site I use a lot, however. Dunno if the artists fare any better with it royalty-wise, though.

This.
What do you mean when you say it's invasive and self-serving? Do you mean the visual layout? I'm seldom actually looking at the program when the music is playing.

Spotify started streaming just one week ago in my country. So it's very new to me.
It's good if I search for a new album that I want to listen to online and it's not on youtube (I never download anything)
The advertisements after almost every second songs are very irritating, though.

Hmm, just a general thing, really. I didn't really mind having to download the program, but when it set itself up to start automatically as soon as I booted up my computer that was a bit annoying. Closing the program then took more time and effort than it should (several steps instead of just one, like a normal application). I don't think they really need to make it a downloadable program either (grooveshark, deezer, etc. aren't), but maybe it's a way for Spotify to glean more info about a user's listening habits, kind of like that 'iTunes Genius' thing.
I think their ad campaigns (at least in this neck of the woods) are pretty offputting as well. 'Listen to Elbow' next to a picture of Elbow looking all menacing. 'Play Now. Spotify'. Just a bit lame, I guess, and when you factor in the royalties issue it makes the ads seem worse.
I listened to a song on Spotify a few weeks ago, as it happens. Just the one track, and I get a steady amount of e-mails since then suggesting that I should listen to all these other related artists. Deezer doesn't do any of these kind of things, so I definitely prefer using their site.

Spotify premium is great. Although i prefer my own iPod as a way to listen to music. I use spotify a lot streaming full albums. _________________ "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming"
