Following a suggestion from The_111th_Beatle, we've now added the ability to select user charts as part of the Make Chart functionality. The subsequent chart is then sorted by the 'rank score' that an album has achieved in the greatest album charts.
The 'rank score' is determined using a formula whereby (in a chart of 100 entries) #1 gets 100 points, #2 gets 99, #3 gets 98, etc (in a chart-size of 10, #1 gets 100 and #2 gets 90 etc.) The albums are then ranked by the average of all the points for the charts that the album has appeared in. The nearer to 100 that an album has scored, the better it has ranked in the all-time listings.
This change has also been propogated to the rest of the site, so now on the album and band pages instead of seeing the average rank, you will see the rank score. We think this is a more accurate reflection of an album's achievements than just using a pure mean average rank as the average rank is not distorted if an album has only appeared say 76th in one chart of 100 entries versus another album that has finished 19th in a chart of 20.
