Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 11% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.8/100, a mean average of 73.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.1.

The singles (Cutt Off, Club Foot, LSF, Processed Beats) are great, but the rest of the album is fairly mediocre. ID and U-Boat are okay too, but it's just an average album for me due to the lack of consistency and the couple of duds in the middle (Test Transmission, Running Battle).
Love this. Brilliant debut. There are many contenders who try to blend melody, rhythm and flow perfectly. Many fail. They has perfected it. Victory to Kasabian. Great music doesn't date and this is still as dynamic as the day it came out.
"Revival" was the key word for pretty much every indie band of the era. Kasabian avoid the most typical influences, like garage rock or blues or even new wave/synthpop and instead go for some Alternative Dance/Madchester.
Definitely prefer this to the direction they went in afterwards. Felt like they had a lot of potential.
I've know the band and this album for a few years now - West Ryder was my entry point and love that. I also enjoyed this, their debut album, but after a 2020 re-listen I had forgotten how good it was - Club Foot, Reason is Treason and Processed Beats open the album and are all great along with L.S.F.
But I hadn't fully appreciated the last few songs on the album with Test Transmission, Cutt Off and Butcher Blues now all landing with me - I think my taste and appreciation has changed since 2016 when I joined this site and started to really open up what I was prepared to listen to. This has also helped me reappraise older albums as well.
This was so great back then. I may have over-listened...
West Ryder I heard before this so it probably didn't blow me away as much - need a re-listen as seem to have fond memories of LSF and Club Foot. About only track I don't like much is Cutt Off but the other tracks are currently at Good rather than Great
First got into this band and album when I heard Processed Beats on FIFA 2004, loved hearing that song on that game. I had a good feeling the album would be the same quality and I was so right! Played it to death for months, that year was particularly good for me music wise as I got into a number of Brit bands.
Firmly in my top 40 albums ever.

Coming from Velociraptor! and West Ryder, this album is wick, but still having great tracklist and songs, Kasabian stop surprising me here, the first i listened to was Empire, which I give 85, then, West Ryder, 100, Velociraptor!, 100, and then another 85, i´m sure they could get better, in too much ways, this is the debut, so, the first impression isn´t that good like the next ones
Best song: Test Transmission, Club Foot
Worst song: Pinch Roller and Orange are wick interlude, the worst song (opinion) is Running Battle
This is what Kasabian do best - big, catchy rock songs. Lyrics always suck, but if you ignore them it can be a fun listen now and again.
