Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.7/100, a mean average of 82.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 6.9.

challenging and fascinating stuff.
Following on from last year’s Hardcore Sounds From Tehran, Iranian abstract techno artist Sote corrals his soundbank into something more formed, more deformed than before.
Sote crafts an excellent blend of innovative electroacoustic music and persian folk music, therefore merging the worlds of past and future. One of the best of 2017.
This record, created by Iranian musician Sote, is a fascinating hybrid of abstract electronica (reminiscent of Arca) and Persian instrumentation. Most of the tracks feature quite aggressive techno which makes for an interesting juxtaposition when contrasted with beautiful Persian instruments like the setar (an Iranian stringed instrument). However, despite the contrast of sounds they also manage to coalesce seamlessly. "Sacred Horror In Design" is a brilliant antidote to a lot of the EDM crap being churned out by the western-world this decade; this is experimental art with overtones of history and emotion and should appeal to fans of IDM who want to venture out of their comfort zone.
